The Podcast #4 – Purple Rain is 25 years old, and we decide to cover that!

Episode # 4 – Purple Rain – The Covers

This summer marks the 25th anniversary of Prince’s epic movie/soundtrack/media tsunami that we remember as Purple Rain. I was 20, and just moved to NYC and could feel what this thing was doing to the club/disco fashion scene. I was already deep into the New Ro scene and needless to say my wardrobe expanded with more leather, lace and eyeliner. But enough about me.

I thought it might be interesting to hear Purple Rain as a covers record. I have had a few tracks that I particularly liked, and had to dig for a few other. They are listed below. Hope you enjoy it. Love it or hate it, leave a comment. Not only does it tell me what you think, but it also enters you into this month’s content -$25 50 gift certificate to Amazon or iTunes and a copy of The Dirt, the Motley Crew Story that I about ready to crack open. Thanks for following us on Twitter, and thanks for being you.

Podcast notes:
Opening Track: Let’s Go Crazy – Clas Yngstrøm & Sky High
7:30 – Take Me With You – Marshall Crenshaw
11:13 – Darling Nikki – Foo Fighters
14:34 – When Doves Cry – Patti Smith
19:32 – I Would Die 4 U – Richard Swift
22:53 – Baby I’m A Star – Buddy Miles
27:21 – Purple Rain (live) – Martin Sexton

Covered That is a site that shares cover tunes. Some the greatest songs are not always recorded by the original artists. Sometimes they border on the majestic - the Jeff Buckley version of Leonard Cohens's "Hallelujah" to the um, not so majestic - WIlliam Hung's version of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" Covered That is a groovemonkey project. Let us know how you like it by commenting on the blog, or thru twitter. And thanks for your support.
